The same pyrolysis oil used today to generate renewable heat and power, can be upgraded to offer a new alternative for the transportation fuel market.
API has already proven on a lab scale that this technology is possible. Now, with the support of the U.S. government, industry partners and joint venture partner.
In early 2010, API announced that we received rom the U.S. Department of Energy to build a demonstration unit in Hawaii that will convert cellulosic biomass into green transportation fuels.
The demonstration is part of the DOE’s effort to help reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil, spur the creation of the domestic bio-industry and create new jobs. The project will use forestry and agricultural residuals as well as algae residuals to produce pyrolysis oil and then upgrade this oil to high-quality, drop-in gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.
